Where It Began
Born from a family legacy
Initiative — Trendsetter in Intelligent Food, was born in June 1998. It was greatly influenced and inspired by the legacy of our late grandfather, Gajendra Nath Mohapatra, who set up two restaurants in Kolkata during the British Raj. The first, Delphian Grill, served European cuisine at what is now known as Exide House near Esplanade, and the second, The Red Pot, was located beside Mitra Cinema Hall in north Kolkata.
Our founder, Rumki Mahapatra, has carried forward this family legacy. As a leading Bengali woman entrepreneur in the Kolkata food scene, Rumki and her Initiative Caterer continually garnered media attention. We were featured by several leading dailies and magazines, including Femina and The Telegraph.
